WAUBAY- Winifred “Mick” Holmquist, 89, of Waubay and formally of Bristol, died on Wednesday September 12, 2007 at Bethesda Home in Webster. Her funeral will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, September 22, 2007 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Waubay, Janet Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Bristol Cemetery. The family prefers all memorials be given to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 136,Waubay, SD 57273. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster on Friday, September 21, 2007 4-7 P.M. and prior to services on Saturday. Winifred Blanch Johnson was born on Thursday, May 2, 1918 on the family farm near in Scotland Township, Day County, South Dakota near Butler. On December 23, 1936 she married Percy Holmlquist at Bristol, South Dakota. After their marriage the couple lived in California for a short time and then returned to South Dakota and began farming north of Bristol. In 1951 they purchased the Red and White grocery store in Bristol and operated it until 1960. They moved to Waubay where Percy operated an insurance agency. Winifred worked part-time in the agency. In May 2003 she entered Bethesda Home in Webster. Percy passed away in August 2006. While Winifred lived in Bristol she was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church and when they lived in Waubay she was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. She spent much of her time on her favorite hobbies, raising flowers and making handmade quilts. Winifred passed away on Wednesday, September 12, 2007 at Webster, South Dakota at the age of 89 years, 4 months and 10 days. Survivors include her children, Jacquelyn (Ron) Fritzke of Watertown, MN and Terrance (Deb) Holmquist of Spicer, MN; a half-sister, Marjorie Boe of Washington; a sister-in-law, Agnes Holmquist of Webster, SD; two grandchildren, David Morehouse and Travis Holmquist; nieces, nephew and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four siblings, Mildred, Marge, Phyllis and Oren, a grandson and a great granddaughter. The family prefers all memorials be given to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Waubay.
