WAUBAY – William “Bill” Herold 75 of Waubay passed away Saturday July 13, 2019 at Sanford Hospital in Webster.
Memorial services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday July 19, 2019 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Waubay. Memorial visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Military inurnment will be in the Lakewood Cemetery near Waubay.
William “Bill” Herold was born on March 23, 1944 to Gussie and Hazel (Johnson) Herold in Chicago, Illinois. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. At a young age the family moved to Waubay, South Dakota. He attended school in Waubay and graduated High School in 1962. After his education he joined the Marine Corp. He was called to duty in Vietnam. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Waubay for a short time before moving to St. Paul, Minnesota.
He was united in marriage to Norma Benedict October 27, 1972 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Waubay, South Dakota. The couple made their home in St. Paul. To this union a daughter, Laurie was born. In 1973, Norma passed away. Bill and Laurie moved back to Waubay, where Bill worked road construction until his retirement.
Bill was a member of the Waubay American Legion and Our Saviors Lutheran Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his great-grandkids.
Bill passed away on July 13, 2019 at the age of 75 years, 3 months, and 21 days at Webster, SD.
His survivors include one daughter, Laurie Peniska of Wilmot, SD; one brother, Milton (Nancy) Herold of Mankato, MN; three grandchildren, Justin (Jenny) Peniska of Beardsley, MN, Kaitlyn (Matthew) Fliehs and Jayson Peniska of Wilmot, SD; eight great-grandchildren; one nephew, Todd Herold of New Richland, MN; and two nieces, Jennifer Clark of Lexington, KY, Patty Flemming of Waldorf, MN. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Norma, and son-in-law, Lloyd Peniska.
