BRISTOL- Wanda Hansmeier, 91 of Bristol died on Monday, February 09, 2009 at Sanford Hospital in Webster. Her funeral will be at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, February 14, 2009 at the United Methodist Church in Bristol, Rev. John Hisel officiating. Burial will be at Bristol Cemetery. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service (fiksdalfuneral.com) in Webster on Friday 3-7 P.M. and prior to services on Saturday at the church. Wanda Violet Pierson was born on Sunday, April 15, 1917 to Floyd and Sarah Jane (Chase) Pierson at Dinuba, California. When she was a young girl the family moved to a farm near Houghton, South Dakota. She attended elementary school at Claremont and country school near her home and Groton High School. She was Valedictorian of her graduating class in 1934. She attended Jamestown College in North Dakota where she received a Bachelors Degree in 1938. She taught math and science in Bristol and Groton. On June 6, 1943 he married Ralph Hansmeier at Bristol, South Dakota. After their marriage the couple made their home in Bristol where Wanda was a homemaker and her husband operated Hansmeier and Son, the family business. Beginning in 1975 the couple traveled extensively throughout the United States and the world. Mr. Hansmeier passed away in 2001. She entered Sun Dial Manor in April 2003. Wanda was a member of the United Methodist Church in Bristol where she was active in their Sunday School, Church Board and the U.M. W. She was a Boy Scout Leader and served at one time as President of the Bristol P.T.A. She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, swimming, going to plays, singing for programs, baby sitting her grandchildren and spending time at their cabin on Enemy Swim Lake. She loved attending her grandchildren’s activities when she was able. Her family, friends, and church were very important in her life. Wanda passed away on Monday, February 9, 2009 at Webster, South Dakota at the age of 91 years, 9 months and 24 days. Survivors include one daughter, Louise (Ralph) Oakland of Bristol, SD; two sons, Floyd (Jill) Hansmeier and Keith (Theresa) Hansmeier both of Bristol, SD; a sister, Floybelle Dziengelewski of Toledo, OH; and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, one sister-in-law and three brothers-in-law.
