(NOTE CHANGE OF SERVICE DAY) Virgil Kriech, 50 of Waubay died on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Golden Living Center in Watertown. His funeral will be at 2:00 P.M. Friday, April 12, 2013 at Fiksdal Funeral Chapel in Webster. Rev. Scott Dempster will officiate. Burial will be in the Webster Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday 5-7 P.M. and one hour prior to services on Wednesday. Virgil James Kriech was born on Tuesday, February 12, 1963 to Vernon and Nelda (Phillips) Kriech at Peabody Hospital in Webster. The family made their home near Waubay where he grew up. He attended school in Waubay and graduated from Waubay High School in 1981. After graduation he farmed and also worked for Kuecker Brothers near Webster. In 1987 he purchased his own farm just south of Rush Lake where he farmed and raised hogs, cattle and sheep. On the farm his favorite companions were his dogs, Buck and Red. He was active in farming until fifteen months ago when he was diagnosed with brain cancer. Since that time he has lived with family members and then entered Golden Living Center in Watertown. Virgil passed away on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Watertown, South Dakota after battling brain cancer at the age of 50 years, 1 month and 25 days. Survivors include sisters and brothers, Judy (Will) Rishling of Sioux Falls, SD, Robert (Jane) Kriech, Donald (Kasha) Kriech and Bonnie (Jeff) Hopkins all of Waubay, SD and Grace Fuchs of Stavinaw, OK. He also leaves behind several special nieces and nephews. Special friends, Aaron Lewandowski, Randy Gronke and his friend of 45 years, Craig Richardt. And his constant companion, Red (man’s best friend). He was preceded in death by his parents.
