Violet "Dottie" Zubke

Violet “Dottie” Zubke, 94 of Florence and formerly Waubay and Webster died on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at Country View Assisted Living Center in Florence. Her funeral will be at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waubay, Rev. James Wilshusen officiating. Burial will be at Webster Cemetery. Violet “Dottie” Ninke was born on December 10, 1922 to William and Amanda (Schmidt) Ninke on a farm in Racine Township, Day County, South Dakota. She was baptized at birth and confirmed in 1937 at American Lutheran Church in Webster. As a small child the family moved to a farm southwest of Webster in Rusk Township. She attended country school and graduated from Webster High School. In 1951 she passed the nursing boards and became a Registered Nurse and worked at Peabody Memorial Hospital in Webster. On November 5, 1960 she was united in marriage to Harvey Zubke at the American Lutheran Church in Webster. After their marriage the couple resided and farm on the Zubke family homestead north of Waubay in Waubay Township, working side by side with Harvey in the early years. In 2004 the couple sold the farm and moved to Webster. Because of declining health the couple moved to Country View Assisted Living Center in Florence in November 2011. Harvey passed away in May 2014. After his death she continued living at Country View in Florence until the present time. She was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waubay since 1961. where she was active in the ladies aide and circle. She also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Waubay. She loved to play cards, gardening, flowers, dancing, traveling, spending time and visiting with family and friends. Survivors include: Sisters-in-law, Shirley Bisgard of Watertown, SD and Evelyn Zubke of Webster, SD; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one sister, Mildred Cumine.
