Viola Fosheim

WEBSTER- Viola (Vi) Fosheim, 89 of Webster and formally of Bristol died on Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at Bethesda Home in Webster. Her funeral will be at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, July 26, 2008 at American Lutheran Church in Webster, Rev. Terrill Sorenson officiating. Burial will be in the Webster Cemetery. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster on Friday 5-7 P.M. and prior to services at the church on Saturday. Viola (Vi) Christine Amundson was born on Thursday, November 8, 1918 to Lars and Selma Amundson in Raritan Township, Day County, South Dakota. She was baptized in the Lutheran Faith at her home and later confirmed at Highland Lutheran Church near Lily. She attended rural elementary schools in Raritan, Lynn and Highland Townships and then graduated from Webster High School in 1937. She attended Lutheran College at Wahoo, Nebraska for one year and then taught a rural school near Webster for a year. Viola worked at Nerger’s Department Store, the Day County Auditor’s Office, Community Oil Company and later at Bristol Bank for twenty five years until her retirement in 1981. On October 22, 1948 she married Ole Fosheim at American Lutheran Church in Webster. The couple lived on the Fosheim family farm, where they farmed with Ole’s parents. In 1957 , the couple purchased the farm and continued living there until 1997 when they moved to the home they purchased in Webster. Following Ole’s death in 2005, Viola moved to Heritage Village and then to Bethesda Home in Webster. She was a member of American Lutheran Church in Webster and then Bergen Lutheran Church near Bristol, following their marriage. She was very active as a member of Bergen Choir and Bergen WELCA as well as serving as Bergen treasurer for 32 years. She rejoined American Lutheran in 2007. She enjoyed attending Community Concerts and Aberdeen Community Theater, music, dancing, reading, gardening, flowers, entertaining, chartered bus and air trips, and times with Ole, and being with her brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and their families. Viola passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at Webster, South Dakota at the age of 89 years, 8 months and 14 days. Survivors include two brothers, Kenneth (Angie) Amundson and John (Nyla) Amundson both of Webster, SD; two sisters, Doris Monson of Roslyn, SD and Frances Swain of Shakopee, MN; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, an infant son and one brother.
