WEBSTER- Verna Parks, 94 of Webster and formerly of Lily died on Monday, November 23, 2009 at Strand-Kjorsvig Community Rest Home in Roslyn. Her funeral will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 28, 2009 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Webster, Rev. Kristin and Daniel Ostercamp officiating. Burial will be at Prairie Mound Cemetery, Butler. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster on Friday 5-7 P.M. and prior to services on Saturday. fiksdalfuneral.com. Verna Herr was born on May 24, 1915 to Fred and Anna (Ulrich) Herr in Valley Township, Day County, South Dakota. She attended country school near her home and graduated from Butler High School. She then attended Northern State College in Aberdeen. After graduation she taught in rural schools and at Wetonka, Lily and Ipswich. On June 30, 1945 she married Vernon Parks. The couple lived in Georgia for a short time and then moved to a farm in York Township, Day County, South Dakota east of Lily. Later she returned to teaching and taught at Bradley and Clark until her retirement in 1980. Mr. Parks passed away in 1985. After his death she continued to live on the family farm until 1992 when she moved to Webster. She entered Strand Kjorsvig Rest Home in Roslyn in June 2008. She was a member of Lily Lutheran Church until it closed and she taught Sunday School and was active in Circle and W.E.L.C.A. When she moved to Webster she became a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. The couple enjoyed traveling in the United States and abroad. She enjoyed her teaching career, gardening, reading and setting jigsaw puzzles. Survivors include one son, Raymond Parks of Lily, SD; a daughter, Kathleen (Roger) Berns of Soldiers Grove, WI. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers, Robert and Raymond.
