Vera Sunne

Vera Sunne, 101, of Webster and formerly of Watertown passed away Tuesday November 16, 2021 at Bethesda Home in Webster. Committal Services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, November 22, 2021 at Prairie Mound Cemetery, near Butler, SD, Diane Hoines will officiate. Memorial Service will be at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, November 22, 2021 at Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer in Watertown, SD. Pastor Kent Stillson will officiate. Visitation will be 5-7 P.M. on Sunday, November 21, 2021 at Fiksdal Funeral Service. Vera Freda Deuschle was born on November 3, 1920, to Charles and Bertha (Herr) Deuschle on the family farm South of Holmquist. She attended country school which was one and a half miles from the farm. She continued her education at Butler High School where she graduated from. She then went to Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen, South Dakota where she obtained her teaching certificate in 1957, her degree in 1963, and master’s degree in 1969. Vera started teaching at just 18 years old. Vera was united in marriage to Arthur Sunne on November 3, 1943. The couple moved to the Sunne farm West of Wallace. Vera taught in many rural schools in Codington County, then in Florence and in 1963 she started in Watertown. Vera and Arthur moved to Watertown in January of 1964. She taught in Watertown for 22 years and retired after 43 years of teaching. Vera and Art enjoyed going on camping trips to either the Black Hills or surrounding lakes. Art passed away on September 16, 1989. Vera continued living in Watertown. Vera was a member of the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer in Watertown for many years. Vera passed away on Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at the age of 101 years and 13 days. She will be deeply missed by many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Husband Art, and her nine siblings.
