WEBSTER- Valerie Franson, 50 of Webster died on Friday, November 10, 2006 at her home at Webster. Her funeral will be at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, November 14, 2006 at Westside Wesleyan Church in Bristol, Rev. Steve Dow officiating. Burial will be in the Webster Cemetery. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster on Monday 4-8 P.M. and prior to services at the church on Tuesday. Valerie Grimes was born on Thursday, September 20, 1956 to Forrest and Gwen (Czmowski) Grimes at the Peabody Hospital in Webster. The family lived on a farm near Crandall. She started school at Conde and when she was thirteen years old the family moved to Webster where she graduated from High School in 1974. On December 31, 1973 she married Randy Franson at the Franson family home in Webster. After their marriage the couple made their home in Webster. She worked at Wagner’s Variety Store, was the secretary for her father-in-law, Vernon Franson’s Amway business, the Day County Courthouse in the County Nurse’s office and Dakotah, Inc. Val and Randy, along with other partners, were instrumental in starting the Sportsman’s Cove in Webster where she worked on a part-time basis. For the past several years until the present time, she worked for Dakotacare as a claims processor. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Webster prior to the Westside Wesleyan Church in Bristol. At Westside Wesleyan Church she sang in the choir and was involved with their ladies groups. She was a member of the Webster Alumni Association where she also served as President. One of the special interests she had was scrapbooking and held many gartherings for friends using Creative Memories. She loved doing wood crafts, flying kites, snowmobiling, riding horse and trailriding, trapshooting, walking, shopping and family activities. She was a gardener and planted flowers in front of the Dakotacare building and at home. Val passed away on Friday, November 10, 2006 at her home near Webster at the age of 50 years, 1 month and 20 days. Survivors include her husband, Randy of Webster; two sons, Chad Franson and Jeff Franson both of Aberdeen, SD; one daughter, Nicole (Cory) Rislov of Wallace, SD; her mother, Gwen Stanley of Webster, SD; three brothers, Forrest Grimes of Cottage Grove, MN, Fred Grimes of Watertown, SD and James (Laurie) Grimes of Webster, SD; one sister, Georgia (Jerry) Peterson of Watertown, SD; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, step-father and an infant sister.
