Thelma Monshaugen, 103, of Roslyn, passed away Friday, August 9, 2024 at Strand Kjorsvig Living Center, Roslyn. 

Memorial services will be 10:30 am Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at Fron Lutheran Church near Roslyn and will be live streamed via our Facebook page.  Inurnment will be at the Roslyn Cemetery.

Memorial visitation will be Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at the funeral home, closing with a 7pm prayer service.

Thelma Eline Rovang was born on May 20,1921 to Elmer and Elma (Rubel) Rovang at Todd County, Minnesota. She grew up in the Fergus Falls area. In 1938 the family moved to Roslyn, South Dakota. She attended school and graduated from Roslyn High School in 1938.

In February 1940 she was united in marriage to Alfred Monshaugen. The couple farmed in Liberty Township, Day County until 1959 when they moved into Roslyn. To this union four children were born, Ramona, Wes, Carole and Lois. She attended St. Joseph Nursing School in Mitchell, South Dakota. She worked at Strand-Kjorsvig Community Rest Home in Roslyn in nursing and administration for thirty years until retirement. In 1997 they sold their home and moved to Webster. Alfred passed away in June 2004. She entered Strand-Kjorsvig Community Rest home in December 2018 where she has resided since.

She was active in Senior Citizens and church activities. She also volunteered at Needs Anonymous and the Museum of Wildlife, Science and Industry. She loved decorating cakes and was a very good seamstress. She was vinegar queen in Roslyn for two years.

Thelma passed away on Friday August 9, 2024, at Roslyn, South Dakota at the age of 103 years, 2 months and 20 days.

She is survived by her children, Ramona Wold of Fridley, MN, Wes Monshaugen of Roslyn, SD, Carole (Troy) Randall of St. Johns, FL and Lois (Craig) Dow of Arlington, TX; 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sisters, Arlene Carlson, Winnifred Opsahl and Lavonne Peterson and two brothers, Donald and Wesley Rovang.
