Shirley Rumpza, 90 of Webster died on Friday, April 27, 2018 at Sanford Hospital in Webster.
Memorial services will be at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Waubay, Barbara Bunk will officiate. Inurnment will be at Lakewood Cemetery.
Memorial visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
Shirley Jean Chapman was born on February 18, 1928 to Delbert and Violet (Holscher) Chapman in Waubay, South Dakota. She was baptized and confirmed at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. She grew up in Waubay and attended Waubay Schools and for a time they lived in Aberdeen where she also attended school.
She married Clayton “Bud” Peterson on April 14, 1946 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Waubay. After their marriage the couple lived in Waubay where she raised her family and the couple operated Bud & Shirley’s Tavern from 1963 – 1972. The couple later divorced and she moved to Webster. She began working at Day County Hospital as an Nurse’s Aide in 1970. She was united in marriage to Jacob Rumpza on April 20, 1974 and the couple continued to live in Webster. She worked at the hospital until her retirement in 1997. For the past five years she has resided at Strand-Kjorsvig Community Rest Home in Roslyn.
She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Waubay. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, gospel music and was an avid bingo player. But her favorite pass time was spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Shirley passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2018 at Webster, South Dakota at the age of 90 years, 2 months and 9 days.
Survivors include one son, James (Carole) Peterson of Gillette, WY; two daughters, Wendy (Roger) Boschee of Gillette, WY and Patricia Block (DeEll) of Waubay, SD; one sister, Marlys (Florian) Pischke of Watertown, SD; a half-sister, Kay Carlisle of Littleton, CO; and twelve grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jacob, two brothers and one sister.
