Shirley Louise Cook (Cookie) was born May 17, 1932, to T. Everett and Louise (Thorton) Cook at home in South Canon City, Colorado. While in 6th grade, the family moved to 4-mile, where Shirley graduated from Canon City High School in 1950. After graduation, Shirley worked at “The Shed” where harvested produce was prepared for railroad shipments and at the Pueblo Ordinance Depot where she checked bomb serial numbers.

On September 20, 1951, Shirley was united in marriage to Leonard Naessig at Fort Richardson, a territory of Alaska. In the spring of 1953, they moved to the home place amid “So much snow that she could stand on the car and not be able to see above the snowbanks.”

Shirley’s greatest enjoyment was her children and grandchildren, Gay Lynn, Craig, Bill and Montana. Family and friends were very precious to her. She spent many years making crafts with “Project Club” and sharing good times with the “South Webster Girls.” These fun-loving friends kept her young at heart with their shared laughter.

Shirley was active in St. John’s Lutheran Church, from teaching Pre-Schoolers in Sunday School, cooking for banquets, as well as belonging to women’s circle. She also belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary and the 4-H Leaders Association for many years.

Grateful for sharing her life are her children, Gay (Bill) Mraz, Dupree, SD; Craig Naessig, Webster, SD; William (Rajean) Naessig, Webster, SD; Grandson, Montana Mraz, Pierre, SD; brother, Charles (Bud) Cook, Canon City, CO. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Leonard, brother William Earl Cook, and sister in law, Edith Cook.
