Sherman McCarlson, 99 of Webster died on Thursday, July 09, 2020 at his home near Webster. Private Family Services will be 10 A.M. Saturday July 18, 2020 and will be live streamed on Fiksdal Funeral Service Facebook page. Burial will be at the Tabor cemetery at 11 A.M. Saturday, friends and family are welcome. Coffee and cookies will be served, weather permitting. Social distancing guidelines will be followed. Walk through visitation will be 5-7 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. Sherman Logan McCarlson was born on Saturday October 2, 1920 near Webster, South Dakota. He was baptized and confirmed at Tabor Lutheran Church. He attended Greenbank country school near his home. He enlisted in the US Marine Corp on June 12, 1944. Surviving the battle of Iwo Jima, he was discharged on June 17, 1946. On June 12, 1948 he was united in marriage to Adeline Jeaninne Wik at Tabor Lutheran Church. The couple made their home on various farms in the area until moving to their present farm northwest of Webster in 1957. Sherman loved music and was involved in barbershop quartets, the Tabor choir and men’s chorus. Family gatherings were filled with singing and Sherman playing various instruments. He was active on boards in the community, Tabor Church, Pickerel Lake Bible Camp and the Strand Kjorsvig Home. He loved farming, caring for livestock, baseball, fishing and educating others about Vigortone. Sherman passed away on Thursday July 9, 2020 at his home at the age of 99 years, 9 months, and 7 days. Sherman will be remembered with love by three daughters, Julie (Chuck) Johnson of Webster, SD, Jane (Jim) Rasmussen of Maple Grove, MN, Sharon (Don) Koch of Las Vegas, NV; one son, Michael (Juli) McCarlson of Webster, SD; 12 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and cousins; three sisters, Martha Baumgarn, Evelyn Likness and Gloria Paulson; sister-in-law Shirley (Laverne) Storley and his wonderful care givers. He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Minnie McCarlson, his lovely wife Adeline, brother Arnold, and sisters, Sophie Pribula and Marion Hendrickson.
