Shawn Charlson

Shawn Charlson, 41, of Webster passed away Saturday January 2, 2021 at Sanford Hospital Webster. Private services will be 1:30 P.M. Wednesday January 6, 2021 and will be livestreamed on Fiksdal Funeral Service Facebook page. Public walk-through visitation will be 11 A.M. to 1 P.M. Wednesday at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster. Those in attendance are respectfully requested to wear a mask and honor social distancing guidelines. Burial will be at the Tabor Cemetery. Shawn Dominic Charlson was born on October 7th, 1979 to Larry & Brenda (Kluck) Charlson in Belle Fouche, SD where he grew up and attended school. Following high school he began his lifelong career in construction. Shawn’s passion was running heavy equipment, he took great pride in all of his projects and loved his work. Shawn took his talents to many different areas including Wyoming, the Twin Cities, Canada, Russia, the Black Hills and Williston, ND. On March 10th, 2017 he married the love of his life, Mindy Wik in Aberdeen SD. Shawn loved Mindy more than life itself and never missed an opportunity to make sure she knew it. Following their wedding, they moved to Webster, SD where Shawn started working for Webster Scale Inc. His day to day work included running a blade, dozer, excavator and driving truck. Shawn cherished all of the friendships he made through his work and very much appreciated everything they did to help him through his rough times. In 2019 his coworkers voted him Webster Scale Inc Construction Division Employee of the year. Shawn was the ‘fun’ uncle and enjoyed anytime he got to spoil his nieces and nephews. Shawn loved to travel with Mindy, be spontaneous and try new things. He was always ready for a great adventure. The most recent adventure was adding Ruby, a Jack Russel Terrier to their family. She was a great companion to both Mindy & Shawn. Shawn will always be remembered for his caring heart, great sense of humor, big smile, and infectious laugh. Shawn battled a medical condition that involved an unexplained loss of blood and low iron for the past 6 years. He has seen many medical professionals and continued to be a medical mystery. Grateful to have been touched by his kind soul are his wife, Mindy Charlson of Webster, SD; Gary & Donna Wik of Webster, SD; Stacey (Adam) Christoffers of Brewster, MN; Matthew (Jenna) Wik of Webster, SD; Christa (David) Orr of Bristol, SD & Brandon (Emma) Wik of Webster, SD. He is also survived by his parents of Kentucky, brother Denny (Meghan) Charlson of Spearfish, SD & 11 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one niece, Alaina Wik.
