Ruth Monzel

WEBSTER- Ruth Monzel, 90 of Webster died on Thursday, December 29, 2005 at Bethesda Home in Webster. Her funeral will be at 1:30 P.M. Monday, January 2, 2006 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Webster, Rev. William Olsen officiating. Burial will be in St. Otto’s Cemetery. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster on Sunday 4-8 P.M. and at the church Monday prior to services. Ruth Harriet Moxness was born on Thursday, April 22, 1915, in Bristol, South Dakota to Christian and Ida (Iverson) Moxness. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Bristol. She grew to young womanhood in the Bristol area and graduated from Bristol High School in 1932. Ruth worked in a variety of governmental and service oriented jobs in the Bristol and Webster area and was especially known for her customer service at Nerger’s Store, Webster. On November 17, 1948, she was united in marriage to John “Hans” Monzel in Minneapolis, Minnesota. They lived their married life on the Monzel family farm in rural Morton Township and in 1967 moved to Webster. Mr. Monzel passed away in 1989.After his death she continued to live in Webster and in 1992 entered Bethesda Home. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Lutheran Church Women and Circle, Morton Tuesday Club, Sr. Websterian Study Club, Women’s Thursday Club, Sons of Norway, and hospital auxiliary. Ruth assisted in coordinating many of her high school reunions and also served as an editor of the Sons of Norway newsletter. She loved writing letters on her antique typewriter. She also enjoyed sewing, painting, crocheting, quilting, writing poetry, and especially taking care of her grandchildren Jacque, Jon and Justin Ohleen. A special joy entered her life on January 9, 2005, with the birth of her great-grandchild Carter Jon Ohleen. She is survived by her daughter Barbara (Dave) Ohleen, Webster; grandchildren Jacqueline Ohleen, Aberdeen; Jon (Lisa) Ohleen, Aberdeen; Justin Ohleen, Aberdeen; and great-grandson Carter Ohleen, Aberdeen; several nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband in January of 1989, her parents, brothers Arnie Moxness, Julius Moxness, Sophus Moxness and sisters Mildred Slattery and Effie Davidson.
