Ruth Braley, 87 of Waubay died on Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at Golden Living Center in Watertown. Her funeral will be at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, July 14, 2012 at Fiksdal Funeral Chapel in Webster, Mark Wieger will officiate. Burial will be in the Webster Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 11:00 A.M. Saturday prior to services at the funeral home. Ruth Evelyn Wieger was born on February 22, 1925 to John and Liz (Bloom) Wieger on the family farm south of Waubay, South Dakota. She attended country school near her home. After she received her education she worked locally in cafes. On September 23, 1946 she was united in marriage to Dennis Braley at Watertown, South Dakota. After their marriage the couple made their home in the Milbank area. The couple also lived in several towns in eastern South Dakota and western Minnesota. In 1971 they moved to Denver, Colorado where she was employed at ATT as a telephone operator, a job which she loved. She retired in 1986. In 1987 the couple returned to Waubay. Dennis passed away in May 2009. After his death she continued to make her home in Waubay. She enjoyed collecting penguins of any kind. She even ‘adopted’ a penguin at the Denver Zoo. She also loved playing cards, visits with friends and family and music, especially listening to the Lawrence Welk television program. Survivors include one son, Douglas Braley of Waubay, SD; three daughters, Denise (Ken) Kjos of Mohave Valley, AZ, Debra (Larry) Evans of Lynd, MN and Donette (Gary) Halverson of Lakewood, CO; one brother, Ray Wieger of Russell, KS; one sister, Doris (John) Osborne of Riverton, WY; a brother-in-law, Willis Hamman of Watertown, SD; three sisters-in-law Ruth Wieger of Waubay, SD, Vera Braley of Sioux Falls, SD and Ruth Liebing of Brookings, SD; nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers, Melvin, Herbert, Fred and Edward, four sisters, Pearl, Freda, Marie and Caroline and one granddaughter.
