Rudolph Pies

ORTLEY – Rudolph Pies, 85 of rural Ortley died Monday January 26, 2009 at his home. His funeral will be 2 PM Friday January 30, 2009 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Waubay, Rev. Janet Miller officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Lakewood Cemetery near Waubay. Fiksdal Funeral Service (fiksdalfuneral.com) is in charge of the arrangements. Rudolph “Rudy” Marvin Pies was born to Philip and Leona (Donat) Pies on February 2, 1923 in Roberts County, Ortley Township, South Dakota. He attended country school in Ortley Township. He farmed in the Ortley area his entire life. On September 29, 1943 he married Evelyn Althoff at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Waubay, South Dakota. To this union, ten children were born. The couple made their home near Ortley and farmed for many years. Rudolph was a life long member at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Waubay. He enjoyed hunting, his teams of horses, his border collie, Penny, and especially spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Rudolph passed away on Monday January 26, 2009 at his home near Waubay at the age of 85 years, 11 months, and 24 days. Survivors include: his wife, Evelyn of Waubay, SD, three sons; Darrell (Bonnie) Pies, Delwin (Ann) Pies, and Gerald (Faye) Pies all of Waubay, SD, five daughters; Darlene Olson of Ortley, SD, Diane (Terry) Anderson of Ortley, SD, Sharon Junso of Watertown, SD, Laurel (Duane) Pehl of Barnard, SD, and Maxine (Harlow) Niles of Waubay, SD, one brother; Lloyd (Dorothy) Pies of Sisseton, SD, four sisters; Arvis Flones of Waubay, SD, Arlene Schultz of Waubay, SD, Joyce Jensen of Redfield, SD, and Karen Henderson of Milbank, SD, 27 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two infant sons, Dale and Daniel, one son-in-law, one sister, and two brothers.
