Ruby Gilbertson

ROSLYN- Ruby Gilbertson, 97 of Roslyn died on Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at Sanford Hospital in Webster. Her funeral will be at 10:30 AM Friday September 19, 2008 at Fron Lutheran Church near Roslyn, Janet Johnson S.A.M. officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service (fiksdalfuneral.com) on Thursday 5-7 P.M. and prior to services on Friday at the church. Fiksdal Funeral Service of Webster is in charge of the arrangements. Ruby Caroline Monshaugen was born September 1, 1911 to Peter and Inga (Hanson) Monshaugen on the family farm near Roslyn, South Dakota. She was baptized and confirmed at Fron Lutheran Church. She attended country school near her home and graduated form Roslyn High School in 1931. After her education she worked as a housekeeper for several families in the Roslyn area. On July 6, 1933 she married Melvin Gilbertson at the Monshaugen family farm. After their marriage the couple made their home and farmed in Liberty Township northwest of Roslyn. In 1978 they retired from farming and moved to Roslyn. Mr. Gilbertson passed away in 2003. Ruby moved into Strand Kjorsvig Community Rest Home in Roslyn in 2005 and was currently residing there. Ruby was a lifelong member of Fron Lutheran Church where she was active in Circle, held several offices in the Ladies Aid and taught Sunday School. She was also an active member of the Women’s Birthday Club at Roslyn. She enjoyed baking, especially angel food cakes for everyone’s birthday. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ruby passed away Tuesday September 16, 2008 at Sanford Hospital in Webster at the age of 97 years and 16 days. Survivors include her son-in-law, Wayne Wasilk of Roslyn, SD; two grandchildren, Chad Wasilk of Roslyn, SD and Nikki (Jamie) Kwasniewski of Webster, SD; two great grandchildren, Ben and Kara Kwasniewski of Webster, SD; one sister, Irene Hemmah of Webster, SD; one sister-in-law, Thelma Monshaugen of Webster, SD; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter, Marlys, one infant son, Ronald, one infant grandson, Cory, one brother and two sisters.
