Robert “Bob” Raap, 85, of Bristol, SD passed away on Friday, October 9, 2020 at Sun Dial Manor in Bristol. A private family memorial service for all relatives will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday and will be live streamed on Fiksdal Funeral Service Facebook page. Military inurnment will be in the Bristol Cemetery. Public walk through memorial visitation will be 5-7 P.M. Friday October 16, 2020 at the funeral home. Robert Keith Raap was born on October 6, 1935 to Edward and Olive Mary (Barrows) Raap in Webster, South Dakota. Robert was baptized in Pierpont, South Dakota and confirmed at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Bristol, South Dakota. The family lived on a farm near Pierpont in 1938 before moving to a farm South of Bristol for five years. The family then moved to the Raap farm in 1943. Robert attended Jackson Country School 146 through 3rd grade. He then attended Bristol School and graduated from Bristol High School in 1953. After high school he attended SDSU for one year. After SDSU he enlisted in the Army in January 1955 and was sent to Germany in August. He was honorably discharged in January1957. After his service he lived in the Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota area where he worked at Red Owl. He then returned home to help his dad and brother, Henry with farming. Robert was united in marriage to Mary Sletten on September 9, 1958 in Pierpont, SD. To this union three children were born, Jon, Mary Jo, and Carolyn. The family made their home on a farm west of Bristol, South Dakota. Bob and Mary farmed for many years. The couple moved into Bristol in February 1990 and then to Aberdeen in February 2014. Mary passed away in 2017 and Bob continued living at Sun Dial Manor in Bristol, SD. Bob was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church in Bristol where he served on the church council for many years and ushered. He was also a member of the American Legion. He severed on the Federal Land Bank Board and he was also a Pioneer Seed Corn Dealer for 21 years. Bob enjoyed farming, fishing, playing cards, gardening, watching all sports on TV, reading farm magazines and Newsweek. He loved taking bus trips with his wife, Mary, and liked spending winters with her in Texas. Robert passed away on Friday October 9. 2020 at the age of 85 years and 3 days. Bob will be missed by his children, Jon (Sherry) Raap of Bristol, SD, Mary (John) Koniowsky of Helotes, TX, and Carolyn (Eugene) Conn of Aberdeen, SD; sister Donna Nolte of Webster, SD; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother Henry, sister Lorraine, brother-in-laws Herbert Nolte and Joe Meester, and sister-in-law Doris Raap.
