WAUBAY- Robert Pierce, 72 of Waubay died on Sunday, May 14, 2017 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Memorial services will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday, May 22, 2017 at Fiksdal Funeral Chapel in Webster, Pastor Dennis Thomas will officiate. Inurnment will be at Lakewood Cemetery, Waubay. Because Robert touched so many lives, honorary urn bearers will be all his many friends and family.
Robert Eugene Pierce was born on September 14, 1944 to Frank and Lyle (Corbin) Pierce at Caldwell Hospital in Webster, South Dakota. He was raised on a family farm southwest of Waubay. He attended Wheatland 171 through eighth grade and high school at Waubay graduating in 1962. Robert also served in the National Guard from 1965 to 1971.
Robert worked different jobs until moving to Minnesota and started working on a farm near Comstock. After several years, he returned to Waubay and worked for the Waubay School District as a bus mechanic as well as farming the land he grew up on.
Robert later procured more farm land and began to farm full time. Robert’s dining room table was the local morning coffee gathering place where many lively and intelligent conversations took place. His wit and wisdom will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Robert passed away Sunday May 14, 2017 at Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the age of 72 years and 9 months.
He is survived by his siblings, Ramona (Richard) Pitzl of Hendricks, MN, Verlan (Deb) Pierce of Milbank, SD, Leon Pierce of KS, Alta (Dennis) Thomas of Sioux Falls, SD, Sherrie Pierce of Wichita, KS, several cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Verda Pitzl and brother-in-law Roger Pitzl and one sister-in-law Linda Pierce.
