Robert Gerriets

Robert Gerriets, 39 of Milbank and formerly of Waubay, passed away on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 in a one car accident on I29 near South Shore. Memorial services will be at 10:30 A.M. Monday, August 13, 2018 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Waubay, Rev. Allie Smith will officiate. Memorial visitation will be at the funeral home on Sunday 2-4 P.M. ending with a 4 P.M. prayer service. Robert Allan Gerriets was born March 15, 1979, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Eighteen days later he became part of the Dale and Ann (Suchy) Gerriets family in Waubay, SD, through adoption. He was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Waubay. He was never ashamed to share his Christian faith. Robert attended Waubay School through 5th grade, and then transferred to Summit, SD, graduating in 1997. Following graduation he worked various jobs, living in Clark, Watertown, and Waubay. In 2008 he enrolled at Moler Barber College in Fargo, ND, and received his barber license in 2009. He moved to Brookings, SD, and was employed at Brookings Barber. In 2014 he moved to Milbank, SD, where he purchased his own shop and continued his barber practice there to the present time. He was also employed at Walmart during his years as a barber. Robert enjoyed bowling, bean bags, going to the movies, hanging out with friends, riding motorcycle, and cheering on the Summit Eagles, Minnesota Twins, and Minnesota Vikings. He also had a passion for any weather-related news and kept family and friends updated on the local weather. Robert is survived by his mother Ann Gerriets and brother Michael Gerriets of Waubay, SD, his biological parents Deanna Determan and Dennis Determan and brother Michael Determan of Mitchell, SD. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father Dale Gerriets in December 2016, and his maternal and paternal grandparents
