WAUBAY- Rick Zubke, 58 of Waubay died on Saturday, August 2, 2008 at his home. His funeral will be at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, August 7, 2008 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waubay, Rev. Jeffrey Kalb officiating. Burial will be in the Lakewood Cemetery, Waubay. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster on Wednesday 5-8 P.M. and prior to services on Thursday at the church. Vergil Richard “Rick” Zubke was born on Monday, May 8, 1950 to Vergil and Evelyn (Mikkelson) Zubke at Webster, South Dakota. The family lived on a farm northwest of Waubay in Waubay Township, Day County, South Dakota. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waubay. He attended country school and also Waubay High School. After he received his education he helped his father and grandfather on the farm. In 1968 he joined the South Dakota National Guard and served for one tour. He also worked for the railroad. On June 26, 1971 he married Karen Holscher at Waubay, South Dakota. After their marriage the couple lived on the Zubke grandparents’ farm where they farmed and milked cows. In 1996 he began working for Terex in Watertown and continued to farm with his sons. Rick loved working with his hands on projects big and small. He lived for his family, farming and passion for old cars and tractors. He was a great husband, father, grandfather and role model for his children. His grandson was a special love for him. Rick passed away on Saturday, August 2. 2008 at his home near Waubay, South Dakota at the age of 58 years, 2 months and 25 days. Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife, Karen of Waubay; two sons, Chuck Zubke of Sioux Falls, SD and Chad ( & wife, Tammy) Zubke of Watertown, SD; a daughter, Misti Zubke of Sioux Falls, SD; one grandson, Colton Zubke; his mother, Evelyn (& husband, Harry) Zubke of Webster, SD; three brothers, Jack (& wife, Grace) Zubke of Watertown, SD, Kellie (& wife, Lynn) Zubke of Sargeant, MN and Jim (& wife, Pam) Zubke of Waubay, SD; one sister, Cherrie (& husband, Dale) Whitlock of Webster, SD; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Vergil.
