Ramona Nelson, 88 of Webster died on Monday, April 23, 2018 at Sanford Hospital in Webster.
Her funeral will be at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, April 26, 2018 at Fiksdal Funeral Chapel in Webster, Rev. Mike McCarlson will officiate. Burial will be in Webster Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday 5-7 P.M. ending with a 7 P.M. prayer service. Visitation will continue 1 hour prior to services.
Ramona Mae Herzog was called to life on April 30, 1929 at Webster, South Dakota to Frank and Anna (Breitbach) Herzog. She attended school in Webster, graduating in 1947. After her education, she stayed in Webster and worked various jobs such as egg candling at Whist Produce and a pin setter at Vern’s Bowling Alley on Main Street.
On March 9, 1950, she was united in marriage to Vernon C. Nelson at Big Stone City, South Dakota. After a short wedding trip, they resided in an apartment above the Marshall Wells Store before traveling around South Dakota while Vernon worked road construction.
Their only child, Ron, was born in 1954. In 1959, the couple opened Deep Rock Filling Station & Café on US Highway 12 in Webster, operating it until 1964. Mona then began working at the Red Owl Grocery Store, later known as Willie's Grocery in Webster. After 25 years of employment, she retired in 1992. After retirement Mona enjoyed lending a helping hand to friends and neighbors.
Mona was a kind woman who loved the outdoors. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends while fishing, hunting, playing cards, bowling, and was always ready to test her luck in the casinos.Mona was a Charter Member of the Webster V.F.W. Auxiliary.
Mona was called to the Father on Monday April 23, 2018 at Webster, South Dakota at the age of 88 years, 11 months, and 24 days.
She will be forever loved and greatly missed by her son Ron (Cathi) of East Helena, MT, and three grandsons: Marc, Jason (Katy), and Gabe (Amy), and four great grandchildren: Spencer, Ashley, Ethan, and Bailey. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in April 2001, and siblings: Alice Osterhoff and Joe Herzog.
