Myrtle Rumpza, 92 of Waubay died on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at Sanford Hospital in Webster.
Her funeral will be at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, September 21, 2013 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Waubay, Rev. Janet Miller will officiate. Burial will be at Lakewood Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday 5-7 P.M. and prior to services on Saturday at the church.
Myrtle Lois Lorenson was born on Monday, April 25, 1921 to Charles and Bolida (Johnson) Lorenson on the family farm in Kosciusko Township, Day County, South Dakota near Pickerel Lake. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She attended country school near by her home near Pickerel Lake. After she received her education she remained at home helping on the family farm.
On October 9, 1939 she was united in marriage to Frank Rumpza at the Wist Lutheran parsonage near Pickerel Lake. The couple made their home in various farmsteads until settling in Egeland Township, south of Waubay in 1947. They farmed there until 1977 when they retired and moved into Waubay. Myrtle worked at Bethesda Home in Webster and the Hearts and Hands Home in Waubay for several years. After Frank passed away in 2002, she remained in their home until moving into an apartment in Waubay.
She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and was active in Ladies Aide and the Friendship Circle. She also belonged to the Waubay Senior Citizens and the R.S.V.P. Program. She enjoyed her family and friends, especially those stopping by for coffee. She also enjoyed country-western music and playing cards at the senior center.
Myrtle is survived by two sons, Gene (special friend, Tina Dalds) Rumpza of Pacific, WA and Robert (Nancy) Rumpza of Waubay, SD; one sister Shirley Willard of Webster, SD; five grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, Clarence, Henry and Jesse Lorenson, and six sisters, Mabel Dewolf, Clara Wyganowski, Ragna Hanson, Belle Melville, Frances Brandell and Lorraine Lang.
