WEBSTER- Murtis Monson, 75 of Webster died on Monday, November 2, 2009 at Bethesda Home in Webster. Her funeral will be at 1:30 P.M. Friday, November 6, 2009 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Webster, Rev. Daniel Ostercamp and Rev. Kristin Ostercamp will officiate. Burial will be at Fron Lutheran Cemetery near Roslyn. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster on Thursday 5-8 P.M. and prior to services on Friday. fiksdalfuneral.com. Murtis Irene Roth was born on Friday, March 16, 1934 to Elmon and Harmka (Hayenga) Roth at Webster, South Dakota. The family lived on a farm east of Andover, Day County, South Dakota. She was baptized and confirmed at the Andover Methodist Church. She attended country school near her home and graduated from Andover High School in 1952. After high school she moved to Aberdeen where she was employed by the South Dakota Employment Service. On October 28, 1956 she was united in marriage to Percival Monson at the Andover Methodist Church. After their marriage the couple made their home on a farm northwest of Roslyn. In 1960 they moved to Webster. She was employed at the Webster Schools, Reporter and Farmer and then in 1973 began working at Northwestern Public Service Company. She continued her employment there until she retired in 1996. In December 2008 she moved to Bethany Meadows Assisted Living in Brandon, South Dakota and she entered Bethesda Home in Webster in September. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Webster where she was a member of the Altar Guild and Ladies Circle. She enjoyed dancing, sewing, spending time on the computer and with her children and grandchildren. Murtis passed away on Monday, November 2, 2009 at Webster, South Dakota at the age of 75 years, 7 months and 17 days. Survivors include her husband, Percy of Webster; one son, Steven (Dawn) Monson of Webster, SD; two daughters, Shari (Daryl) Petri and Patti Monson both of Sioux Falls, SD; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her twin sister, Mavis Wik, two brothers, Bill and Gene, and a infant son, Jeffrey.
