Michael "Mike" Rice

Michael Rice, 72, of Webster passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at his home in Webster.

Memorial Services will be at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, April 2, 2022, at Fiksdal Funeral Service and will be livestreamed on Fiksdal Funeral Service Facebook page. Luncheon will follow in the basement.


Michael James Rice was born on August 16, 1949, in Pipestone, Minnesota, to James “Jiggs” and Beverly (Ellefson) Rice. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith.  Michael was raised and worked on the family farm near Ward, South Dakota. He attended country school near Ward and later graduated from Flandreau High School in 1967. After his education he worked at Mobil and Cenex before starting his 29-year career with Loiseau Construction Inc.  

Michael was united in marriage to Joan Peper on April 13, 1968, in Flandreau. The couple made their home in Flandreau. To this union 4 children were born: Karla, Kevin, Duane, and David. Michael moved to Webster, South Dakota in the late 90's. He was united in marriage to Jeani Gebur on April 26, 1997, at the Galley in Webster, SD. Her children, Angel and Clint were added to the family. Michael continued working for Loiseau Construction until his retirement on August 31, 2021. Michael enjoyed woodworking in his free time, working on cars, and taking the scenic route on all trips. 

Michael passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, at the age of 72 years, 7 months, and 13 days. 

Michael will be forever loved and deeply missed by his wife, Jeani Rice of Webster, SD; his children Karla (Dan) Heyduk of White River, SD, Kevin Rice of Springfield, MO, Duane (Tamra) Rice of Flandreau, SD, and David (Lisa) Rice of Dell Rapids, SD, step-children: Angel (Scott) Gebur of Webster, SD and Clint Gregerson of Sioux Falls, SD; one brother Tim (Robin) Rice of Volga, SD; sibling-in-laws: Steve Gebur, Ed Gebur, Deanna Trautner, Glenn Gebur, Donna Gebur, Georgia Sichmeller, and Michelle Gebur; 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents James “Jiggs” and Beverly Rice and brother Jeff Rice.
