Mathias "Matt" Nyvold

ROSLYN- Mathias “Matt” Nyvold 85 of Roslyn died on Tuesday, May 02, 2006 at Strand-Kjorsvig Community Rest Home in Roslyn. His funeral will be at 2:00 P.M. Friday, May 5, 2006 at Fron Lutheran Church near Roslyn, Janet Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster on Thursday, 4-8 P.M. and prior to services on Friday. Mathias “Matt” Joseph Nyvold was born on Tuesday, July 13, 1920 to Edward and Anna Selma (Johnson) Nyvold on the family farm in Liberty Township, Day County, South Dakota northwest of Roslyn. He was baptized and confirmed at Fron Lutheran Church. He attended country school in Liberty Township and then attended Roslyn High School. After his education he farmed and raised livestock with his father on the family farm. In September 1957 he married Judith Fryer and five children were born to this union. The couple lived on the Nyvold family farm. In 1968 he was appointed as Day County Director of Equalization. He married Elizabeth Korf in June 1981. Matt retired in 1990, after 22 years of service as Director of Equalization. He lived on the family farm, in Roslyn and in recent years, in Aberdeen. He entered Strand-Kjorsvig Community Rest Home in Roslyn in April 2006. He was life-long member of Fron Lutheran Church where he taught Sunday School and served on the Church Council. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. His memory will live on with three sons, Erwin (Pam) Nyvold of Clear Lake, SD, Edward Nyvold of Aberdeen, SD and Charles (Rachelle) Nyvold of Morris, MN; two daughters, Selma (Keith) Howe of Roslyn, SD and Sarah (Kenny) Haessig of Aberdeen, SD; thirteen grandchildren, Darrin Howe, Nicole (Mitchell) Krueger, Kristina Nyvold, Matthew Nyvold, Ryan Haessig, Ashley Haessig, Joni (Jody) Hollinquest, Carrie Nyvold, Mitchell Nyvold, Shala Nyvold, Kyle Nyvold and Nathan Nyvold; four great grandchildren, Codi Krueger, Ashton Goehring and Tatyana Hollinquest; three step-grandchildren, Jessica, Lacy & Laramie Schaffer; and two step-great grandchildren, Jaden & Jenna Hintz. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Albion.
