Mary Elizabeth Radford was born on March 21, 1936 to Lee and Cora (Knorr) Radford at Madison, Minnesota. She grew up on her aunt and uncle Knorr’s farm near Waverly, Minnesota and graduated from Madison High School.
On October 24, 1954, she married Don Bucholz at Lac Qui Parley County. The family moved to South Dakota in the early 1970’s. They made their home in a little house north of the Pierpont TV tower, “The Sirie”. It is the place Mom always said was her favorite!
Mary and Don moved to the Winson place on the north side of Pierpont in the early 1990’s. Don passed away in 2004. Mary continued to live at their home in Pierpont until recently when she moved to Groton Care and Rehab.
Mary was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran/Heaven Bound Ministries Church as well as the Pierpont Ladies Legion Auxiliary.
Mary enjoyed many simple things. She and Don loved to garden. She always had beautiful flowers, welcoming guests as they came to the front door! She enjoyed her big yard and the two trees in the front that provided just the right amount of shade. Mary also enjoyed feeding and watching birds all year long. She was an avid Stephen King fan, reading many of his books over the years. She also loved Sunday morning breakfasts with her sons at Perebooms Café or Dakota Diner in Webster. They always had to go early to beat “the church crowd”. Mary enjoyed her cats, she knew each one had a special personality, which she would talk about each time she visited with her family on the telephone. Above all else, she loved her family dearly.
Mary passed away Monday February 6, 2017 at Groton, South Dakota at the age of 80 years 10 months and 16 days.
She will be greatly missed by her children: Steve, Joe, Todd, Brett, Sam, Mardy, Rhonda, Denise, and Sandra. She is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three daughters: Kathy, Debra, and Sherie, one brother Doug and one sister Nancy.
