Marvin Bury, 84 of Webster died on Sunday, November 19, 2017 at Bethesda Home in Webster.
His funeral will be at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Webster, Rev. Mike DeKraai will officiate. Military interment will be at Webster Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday 5-7 P.M. and prior to services on Wednesday.
The family prefers memorials directed to St. John's Lutheran Church or Bethesda Home, both in Webster.
Marvin Eugene Bury was born June 19, 1933 in Webster, South Dakota to Nick and Josephine (Leegard) Bury. He was baptized and confirmed at Butler Lutheran Church. He grew up on a farm near Butler, attended rural school near his home and graduated from Webster High School in 1951. Upon graduation, he was drafted and spent two years in the U.S. Army from 1953 - 1955.
On February 25, 1956 Marv was united in marriage to LaVonne Stadsklev at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Bristol, South Dakota. The couple lived in Holmquist and Aberdeen while Marvin worked in the grain business and then moved to Webster, South Dakota in 1960 where Marvin began work as manager of the Webster Equity Elevator. In 1970 Marvin joined the office of Lake Region Electric, where he worked until his retirement in 1995. After retiring, Marvin continued to work part-time for United Building Center and for Lake Region. LaVonne passed away in October 2015. After her death he continued to live in his home until entering Bethesda Home in Webster in April 2016.
Marv was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Webster, serving over the years as Sunday School teacher and superintendant, church council member and church council chair. He also served eight years as a Day County commissioner and served over 44 years on the Soil Conservation Board. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, sports, ballroom dancing and square dancing. Marvin and LaVonne took several bus trips around the U.S. and especially enjoyed attending the Host Fest in Minot, ND for twelve years.
Marv passed away on Sunday, November 19, 2017 at Webster, South Dakota at the age of 84 years and 5 months.
Grateful for having shared his life are his children, Karen (Roy) Peters of Canistota, SD, Randy (Sonia) Bury and Kristi (Kim) Lindquist both of Sioux Falls, SD; one sister, Fern Westby of Aberdeen, SD; six grandchildren, Nathan Peters, Lindsey (Miguel) Lopez, Jake and Luke Bury, Kelsey and Kory Lindquist. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a sister, Marlys Peterson and an infant sister.
