Marion Sandal

Marion Sandal, 89 of Webster died Saturday June 11, 2011 at Sanford Hospital in Webster. Memorial services will be held 3:00 P.M. Friday June 17, 2011 at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster.Visitation will be prior to the service. Burial will be in the Webster Cemetery. Marion Hazel Erickson was born on December 16, 1921 to Martin and Emma (Braly) Erickson at Webster, South Dakota. She was confirmed at St. Pauli Evangelical Lutheran Church near Wallace, South Dakota on September 19, 1937. Marion graduated from eighth grade at Day County District No. 173 on June 19, 1937. After her education she worked for various families in the Webster area doing housework. On March 22, 1940, she married Selmer Reuben Sandal at the Lutheran Parsonage at Pierpont, South Dakota. To this union two children were born, LeRoy and Betty. The family made their home on the Sandal farmstead ten miles northwest of Webster. While Selmer was engaged in beef/cattle farming, Marion was a devoted stay at home mom and housewife. Mr. Sandal passed away on December 5, 1992. Marion remained on the farm with her son, LeRoy, until he passed away in February of 2001. She then moved to the Helms Apartments in Webster. In October, 2009 she moved to the Downtown Manor in Webster and in December 2010, she entered the Bethesda Home in Webster. She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, crossword puzzles, watching game shows, farm life and especially family gatherings. Marion passed away Saturday June 11, 2011 at Webster, South Dakota at the age of 89 years, 5 months, and 26 days. She is survived by her daughter, Betty (Wayne) Anderson, two grandsons, Tony (Heather) Anderson and Lance (Janell) Anderson, one granddaughter, Dana Anderson all of Mobridge, SD, six great-grandchildren, Mattiaus, Trishtyn, Dreyvan, Bethany, Emily, and Dacian. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Selmer of 52 years, one son LeRoy, eight brothers, six sisters, and one grandson Robert.
