Marion Busch

BRISTOL- Marion Busch, 95 of Bristol died on Thursday, March 9, 2006 at Lake Area Hospital in Webster. Her funeral will be at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, March 14, 2005 at Butler Lutheran Church in Butler. Rev. Dan Overbo will officiate, Burial will be at a later date at Prairie Mound Cemetery near Butler. Marion Luella Engebretson was born on Sunday, March 5, 1911 to Swen and Mary (Sannes) Engebretson at Minneapolis, Minnesota. As a small child the family moved to a farm east of Lily, South Dakota in Highland Township of Day County. Marion attended Highland Grade School #189 for two years, until her family moved south of Butler tothe Hollingsworth farm where the eight children attended Prairie Flower # 116. In 1920 the family moved northwest of Lily in York Township. Marion attended her freshman year at Lily High School and graduated from Butler High School in 1930. After graduation, Marion attended Northern Normal Teaching School for one year and received her teaching certificate, she then taught in several rural schools. In 1968, she along with her youngest daughter Carolyn received their degrees from Northern State University in Aberdeen, South Dakota. After Marion received her teaching degree she taught in various schools in the area such as Lily, Pierpont, Wallace, Crocker, and Hazel. She taught school for a total of twenty years. On May 25, 1937 she married Clifford Busch at Lily. After their marriage the couple made their home on a farm near Butler in Troy Township. Marion taught school until her retirement in 1970. Mr. Busch passed away in 1979. Marion continued to live on the farm until 1997 when she moved to Webster. She entered Sun Dial Manor in October of 2004, where she remained until her passing. Marion was a member of Butler Lutheran Church and WELCA. She was also a member of Lily Legion Auxiliary, Craft Club and Bristol Senior Citizens. She enjoyed sewing, especially quilts in her spare time. Survivors include two sons, Lyle (Julaine) Busch and Jerry Busch all of Bristol, SD; two daughters, Joan (Lawrence) Lauppe of Colorado Springs, CO and Carolyn (Franklyn) Roitsch of Hayden, CO; one sister-in-law, Florence Engebretson of Bristol, SD; fourteen grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers and four sisters.
