Marian Grode

Marian Alice Grode, 88, was born into eternal life on Thursday, November 18, 2021 at Sun Dial Manor in Bristol, South Dakota following a year-long battle with stage IV oral cancer.

Memorial Services will be at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Groton, SD. and will be livestreamed on Fiksdal Funeral Service Facebook page. Luncheon will follow at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Rectory in Groton and inurnment will be at the Bristol Cemetery in Bristol, SD following the luncheon.

Memorial Visitation will be from 5-6:30 P.M. on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Groton and will close with a 6:30 P.M. Rosary Service.

Marian was born on April 19, 1933, to Francis Patrick (FP) and Victoria Josephine (Schmit) Prunty at their home outside Andover, South Dakota. Delivered by her father, she was the 10th of 16 children. Marian attended the one room country school and graduated from Andover High School in 1951 and was crowned homecoming queen. Marian graduated from Northern State Teachers College in 1953 with a degree in elementary education. She taught for 2 years at the rural school and then one year at Pierpont, South Dakota in 3rd and 4th grades. Marian married Robert Grode on June 14, 1955, and they had 10 children together whom they raised on a farm in Butler, South Dakota. They moved to a home in Bristol, South Dakota in 2012 and then to the Sun Dial Manor earlier this year. Marian served on the Bristol Cemetery board for 34 years. Marian was constantly learning new skills and had many hobbies including knitting, crocheting, tatting, painting, gardening, preserving, canning, sewing, and playing cards. She especially enjoyed spending time with her husband and family as well as spoiling her grandchildren, who she loved dearly. Marian is survived by her husband, Robert Grode of Bristol, SD; sons: Daniel of Bristol, SD; Loren (Karla) of E. Wenatchee, WA; Keith (Toni) of Katy, TX; Paul of Yuma, AZ; Tom (Tiffany) of Brandon, SD and daughters: Mary Kay of Aberdeen, SD; Sandy (Craig) Lee of Racine, WI; fourteen grandchildren: Travis (Tori) of Fort Collins, CO; Terri (Jeff) Rybicki of Cary, IL; Matt (Lori) of Minneapolis, MN; Emily (Robert) Grode of Lincoln, NE; Cole (Lindsey) of E. Wenatchee; Royce of E. Wenatchee, WA; Kessley of E. Wenatchee, WA; Jayce of E. Wenatchee, WA; Jake of Katy, TX; Lacey Moslemi of Yuma, AZ, Kyle (Ashley) of Phoenix, AZ; Kody (Jordon) Simpson of Yuma, AZ; Reid of Sioux Falls, SD; Chase of Brandon, SD and Quinn of Brandon, SD, and nine great grandchildren; three brothers: Eugene of Bristol, SD; Clarence of San Diego, CA; William (Elizabeth) of Salinas, CA; three sisters: Sister Patricia Prunty of Sioux Falls, SD; Dorothy (John) Meier of Normal, IL; and Theresa (Darell) Evers of Mankato, MN. Marian was preceded in death by three sons: David, Bill and Brent, her parents, three brothers: Robert, Edward, and Thomas Prunty; six sisters: Mary Prunty, Marge Wing, Evelyn Overas, Cecelia (Heinen) Jurgens, Elizabeth (Grode) Gollnick and Ruth Prunty.
