WAUBAY- Luella Ysbrand, 86 of Milbank and formerly of Waubay died on Saturday, June 12, 2010 at St. Williams Care Center in Milbank. Her funeral will be at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, June 17, 2010 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waubay, Rev. Jeffrey Kalb officiating. Burial will be at 3:00 P.M. at Lennox City Cemetery, Lennox, SD. Luella Blanch Blakely was born on Tuesday, November 27, 1923 to Lorenzo “Loren” and Oline (Juven) Blakely at Beaver Creek, Minnesota. She grew up at Beaver Creek and attended elementary school there. On March 18, 1943 she married Theodore “Ted” Ysbrand. She graduated from Beaver Creek High School in June 1943 and then attended Electronic Radio and Television Institute in Minneapolis, Minnesota and received a degree in communications and later worked as a communication supervisor on the east and west coasts during World War II. In the late 1940’s they moved to Waubay and operated a resort on Blue Dog Lake. She also worked at State Bank of Waubay for 35 years until retirement. Mr. Ysbrand passed away in May 1982. Because of poor health she became a resident of St. Williams Care Center in Milbank in February 2007. She was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waubay and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed crocheting, reading and gardening. Luella passed away on Saturday, June 12, 2010 at Milbank, South Dakota at the age of 86 years, 6 months and 16 days. Survivors include a sister, Betty Billet of Milbank, SD; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
