Lovella Gullickson, 96 of Roslyn died on Friday, October 23, 2015 at Strand-Kjorsvig Rest Home in Roslyn.
Her funeral will be at 10:30 A.M. Friday, October 30, 2015 at Fron Lutheran Church near Roslyn, Janet Johnson will officiate. Burial will be at Roslyn Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday 5-7 P.M. closing with a 7 P.M. Prayer Service.
Lovella Evelyn Grinager was born on Saturday, April 5, 1919 to Gilbert and Lena (Sorenson) Grinager in rural Pierpont, South Dakota. She was baptized and confirmed at Fron Lutheran Church near Roslyn. She attended country school in Independence Township No. 205 through the eighth grade and then graduated from Roslyn High School in 1937. After graduation she was employed at various jobs in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
On November 15, 1943 she was united in marriage to Sidney Gullickson of Roslyn. The couple lived all their fifty four years together in Roslyn. Lovella worked several years at H & H Grocery Store, and in 1968, she began working in the food services department of the Roslyn School. She held that position for eighteen years. Sidney passed away on August 1, 1996.
She was a member of the Roslyn Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School in her earlier years. She was active in E.L.C.W. and quilting for the church. She also was a member of the Roslyn Women’s Study Club, Friendly Circle Extension Club and the Roslyn Sewing Club. She also was the treasurer of the Senior Citizens Fund for eight years. Lovella enjoyed bowling, all sports, reading and working crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed crocheting and sewing quilts for all her family, spending time with her four grandsons and three great grandchildren, and in later years, traveling to her families’ homes.
Lovella passed away on Friday, October 23, 2015 at Roslyn, South Dakota at the age of 96 years, six months and eighteen days.
Survivors include one daughter, Sheryl Gullickson of Roslyn, SD; two sons, Orrin (Carol) Gullickson of Centennial, CO and Dr. Dale (Donna) Gullickson of Centerville, OH; two sisters, Hazel Syhre of Roslyn, SD and Gladys Hoberg of Winlock, WA; four grandsons, Jon, Lee, Adam and Kevin; three great grandchildren, Ethan, Noah and Emily; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Gerhard and Benford, two sisters, Clara Flom and Agnes Matykielwicz, a daughter-in-law, Donna Gullickson, sisters-in-law, Edna Grinager, Mary Grinager, and a brother-in-law, LeVern Syhre.
