WAUBAY- Loreen Aker, 89 of Waubay died on Friday, December 27, 2019 at Sanford Hospital in Webster. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday January 3, 2020 at Hope Lutheran Church in Summit. Burial will be in the Ortley Cemetery. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service Thursday 5-7 closing with a prayer service. Fiksdalfuneral.com. Loreen Vivian Richardt was born on July 9, 1930 to Lawrence and Beatrice (Grant) Richardt on a farm in Roberts County. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Loreen attended country school near the family farm through eighth grade. After her education she worked various cooking and cleaning jobs for neighboring families. Loreen was united in marriage to Harold Aker on December 24, 1948 in Watertown, South Dakota. The family made their home in Alto Township in Roberts County where they farmed until 1978. Loreen worked several jobs in the area and most recently retired from the Waubay School as a cook at the age of 80 years old. Loreen was a member of the VFW, American Legion Auxiliary, Waubay Senior Citizens, and Hope Lutheran Church where she was active in the ladies aid. She enjoyed baking, especially cakes for special events over the years with her specialty being wedding cakes. She also loved reading, crocheting, playing cards, and above all else she loved spending time with her family and friends. Loreen passed away Friday, December 27, 2019 at Webster, South Dakota at the age of 89 years, 5 months, and 18 days. She is survived by her two sons, Dennis (Cheryl) Aker of Crooks, SD and Dale (Lisa) Aker of Milbank, four grandchildren, Shelley (Mike) Bitz of Sioux Falls, SD, Corey (April) Aker of Dell Rapids, SD, Alyssa Aker of Brookings, SD and Zachary Aker of Watertown, SD; four great-grandchildren, Tyler and Carter Bitz and Dylan and Brayden Aker. Two sisters, Beverly (Harlin) Bachmann and Dorothy Eidet both of Watertown, SD; brother-in-law Bob Grebel of Waubay, SD; brothers-in-law Clifford (Phyllis) Aker of Watertown, SD; Ron (Carolyn) Aker of Watertown, SD; sister-in-law Lois Cotton of Watertown, SD, and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; sister, Florence Davis; brothers-in-law William Davis, Dwayne Eidet, Lyle Anderson, Alton Aker, Alvin and Elaine Aker, Murel and Jane Aker.
