WATERTOWN – Lora Gaikowski, 64, of Watertown and formerly of Waubay passed away Friday May 11, 2018 at Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Waubay. Burial will be at Lakewood Cemetery in Waubay.
Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday 5-7 P.M. ending with a 7 P.M. Rosary. Memorials are preferred.
Lora Jane Gaikowski was born on April 21, 1954 to Roman and Rosemary (Breske) Gaikowski in Webster, South Dakota. The family made their home north of Ortley at the time. She was baptized at St. Otto’s Catholic Church in Webster.
Lora spent five years at the Crippled Children’s Hospital and School in Sioux Falls then returned home to continue her education in Waubay where she earned an honorary diploma. After she received her education she entered the Adjustment Training Center in Watertown. She lived independently and proudly took care of herself in her “own” place. She later moved to a group home.
She enjoyed her family. She was an artist, painting pictures to give to her family. She was a familiar face to the people of Watertown. She had many friends who made a big difference in her life.
Lora passed away on Friday, May 11, 2018 at Watertown, South Dakota at the age of 64 years and 20 days.
Survivors include her mother, Rosemary Gaikowski of Webster; two brothers, Duane (Carol) Gaikowski and Dean (& special friend, Lori Riley) Gaikowski both of Waubay, SD; four sisters, Mona (Gary) Youell of Webster, SD, Donna (Roman) Okroi of Grenville, SD, Jane (Robert) Kriech and Janet (Wayne) Bartelt both of Waubay, SD; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, and two brothers, Doug and Alan.
