Lila Machmiller

BRISTOL- Lila Machmiller, 95 of Bristol died on Saturday, May 05, 2007 at Sun Dial Manor in Bristol. Her funeral will be at 2:00 P.M. Monday, May 7, 2007 at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Bristol, Rev. Dan Overbo officiating. Burial will be in the Bristol Cemetery. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster on Sunday 5-7 P.M. and prior to services on Monday at the church. She was born Lila Ethel Foster on Wednesday, December 13, 1911 to Carey and Minnie (Johnson) Foster on her parent’s homestead near Glad Valley, South Dakota. She started school near Glad Valley. In 1920 her parents moved to a farm in Day County, South Dakota near Bristol where she attended country school and graduated from Bristol High School with the class of 1930. She then attended Northern State College in Aberdeen and received her teaching certificate. She taught in the country schools in the Bristol area. On June 10, 1936 she married Aubrey Machmiller. The couple made their home and farmed the original Machmiller farm which was located southwest of Bristol for the next thirty-two years. In 1968 they retired into Bristol. After moving to Bristol she worked at Sun Dial Manor. Even after quiting work there, she continued to cut hair and give permanents to the residents on a volunteer basis. Mr. Machmiller passed away in April 1992. She entered Sun Dial Manor in 2002. She was a baptized and confirmed member of Bethesda Lutheran Church in Bristol where she served on the church board and was active in Ladies Aide and Circle. She also belonged to the Friendly Neighbors’ Extension Home Club for thirty-two years. She also was active in Bristol Senior Citizens and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. She enjoyed gardening, crafts, cooking and sewing. Lila passed away on Saturday, May 5, 2007 at Bristol, South Dakota at the age of 95 years, 5 months and 23 days. Survivors include her only son, Alfred (& Patricia) Machmiller of San Jose, CA; one grandson, John Machmiller of San Jose, CA; a great granddaughter, Kayla Machmiller of Folsom, CA; one sister, Bessie Meuer of Webster, SD; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, Mabel Esche and Berniece Nilson and one grandson, James Machmiller.
