WEBSTER- Lester Narem, 93 of Webster died on Wednesday, February 08, 2006 at his home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, February 11, 2006 at Christ The King Catholic Church in Webster. Burial will be in St. Otto’s Cemetery, Webster. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service on Webster on Friday 1-4 P.M. then continuing at the church 6-8 P.M. with a 7:00 P.M. Scriptural Prayer Service and Rosary. Lester Earl Narem was born on Friday, September 9, 1912 to John Richard and Inger Annette (Otterson) Narem on the family farm in Central Point Township, Day County, South Dakota southeast of Waubay. He attended country school near his home. In 1926 the family moved to Watertown where he graduated from Watertown High School in 1930. In 1932 the family moved back to the family farm and he worked there. In 1935 he entered the Civilian Conservation Corps and worked at a camp near Custer. After a year he returned to the family farm. In 1937 he moved to Kremlin, Montana and managed a hotel for his uncle, returning a year later to farm in partnership with his father. On November 3, 1942 he married Marian Wojcik at Watertown, South Dakota. After their marriage the couple made their home and continued to farm the family farm. He purchased the farm in 1951 and farmed until his retirement in 1978. The couple then moved to Watertown and lived there until 1979 when they moved to Webster where they have lived since. Lester loved to play cards, shoot pool and keep up with sports teams. He was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus. Lester passed away on Wednesday, February 08, 2006 at his home in Webster, South Dakota at the age of 93 years, 4 months and 29 days. Survivors include his wife, Marian of Webster; three sons, Leon (Marilu) Narem of Chanhassen, MN, Robert (Linda Simmons) Narem of Twin Brooks, SD and James Narem of Long Beach CA; one daughter, Earlene (Dale) Dobberpuhl of Watertown, SD; four sisters, Nettie (Arthur) Mallery of Summit, SD, Ruth Kranz of Watertown, SD, Esther (Bill) Huggett of Virginia, MN and Grace Jurek of Victorville, CA; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers, five sisters and a granddaughter.
