LeRoy Ceroll, 88, of Cloquet, Minnesota, and formerly of Webster, passed away, Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at his daughter's home in Cloquet.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am Friday, January 17, 2025 at Christ the King Catholic Church in Webster. Military honors will immediately follow outside the church.
Visitation will be 5-7 pm Thursday, January 16, 2025, closing with a scriptural wake service at 7 pm at the funeral home.
LeRoy Arthur Ceroll was born on May 25,1936 to Emil Theodore and Helen Pearl (Hanson) Ceroll in Sisseton, South Dakota. He was baptized and confirmed at the Zion Lutheran Church in rural Claire City. He grew up on a family farm where he attended rural elementary school and graduated high school in New Effington. There he participated in FFA, chorus, and class plays. After graduation he helped his dad on the family farm until he joined the U.S. Army. LeRoy worked for the Federal Stamping Company in Minneapolis, in the city where he met Bonnie Hovland who later became his wife, they married on December 17,1966. They lived in Minneapolis their 1st year then moved to the Ceroll family farm to work as Emil Ceroll (his father) was retiring. This is where they raised their 4 children. LeRoy quit farming in 1991 and began to work at Dakotah Inc. in Veblen, South Dakota and later at the Dakotah plant in Webster, retiring in 1998. He also worked for Webster Small Engine Repair and as a custodian for the Webster School District before fully retiring in 2006.
LeRoy joined Christ the King Church on October 27, 2000. LeRoy married Vendella Gruby and made Webster, South Dakota their home where they enjoyed many great friends. LeRoy and Vendella were very active in church activities such as choir, greeter, usher, cantor, financial secretary, and so much more. They loved dancing, traveling, and meeting new friends as they were involved in community activities. LeRoy also enjoyed golfing, waterskiing, boating, playing cards, and skating. His great joy was his family, creating numerous awesome memories filled with happiness. LeRoy joined the Knight of Columbus where he served as the Grand Knight in council #4903 in Webster and Waubay. He was so proud of accomplishing 4th Degree honors. He was a board member of the Webster Museum Wildlife Science and Industry. LeRoy volunteered for many organizations in the community. One of his most treasured was helping with Make A Wish Foundation, along with Tom Lewno, Michael Ceroll, and Virgil Ceroll, they had such great times together. LeRoy loved to drive his Farmall H in tractor runs. LeRoy also enjoyed helping with big pancake feeds.
Preceding him in death are his parents Emil and Helen Ceroll, brother Marvin Ceroll, wife Vendella Ceroll, brother-in-law Ronald Ceroll, daughter Julie Ceroll and stepson Duane Gruby.
He is survived by two daughters Lori (Richard Leone) Ceroll Runstrom, Kathie (Troy Bendt) Ceroll, son Jeremy Ceroll, stepdaughter Lynn (Jerry) Maag, very close brother Virgil (Nancy) Ceroll, sister-in-law Janet Ceroll, his grandchildren Nicole (Dan) Sanders, Emily Brannon, Vanessa (Mike Starkey) Ceroll, Bradley Beyer, Amber (Aaron Ikola) Tobeck, Kristen (Spencer Thorman) Tobeck, Rachel, Sabrina, Nicholas and Reidar Runstrom, 14 great grandchildren, a dear friend Tom Lewno, and numerous wonderful friends.
