LeRoy Donald Brown was born September 3, 1940, at Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Donald and Evelyn (Sorenson) Brown. He was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Menno, South Dakota. He attended country school, Salem #81 at Freeman, South Dakota. He graduated from Viborg High School in 1958. Following his education, he worked road construction until he was drafted into the United States Army, serving at West Point, New York. He was honorably discharged in 1965.
On July 2, 1966, he was united in marriage to Leone Jensen at Spring Valley Lutheran Church in Viborg. To this union two sons were born, David and Perry. They made their home on the Brown family farm for about five years before moving to Menno, where LeRoy worked at Gerald Mettler Implement. This led to his employment at Gehl Company which relocated the family to Webster.
LeRoy was a member of the Webster American Legion and St. John’s Lutheran Church.
He had a great passion for working with farm equipment, driving 18 wheelers, and working with construction equipment. He also enjoyed bowling, tractor pulling, hunting, and fishing. One of his greatest accomplishments was obtaining his pilot’s license.
LeRoy passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at Roslyn, South Dakota at the age of 83 years, 6 months, and 2 days.
He will be forever missed by his wife Leone of Webster, SD, sons, David (Roxi) Brown of Mitchell, SD, Perry (Hope) Brown of Parker, SD, grandsons, Justin (Laura) Brown and their daughter Rooney of Sioux Falls, SD and Beau Brown of Sioux Falls, SD. He is also survived by his sibling, Connie (Bob)Deane of Mt. Pleasant, TX, and Bob (Mary) Brown of Chamberlain, SD, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and in-laws, Lemoine and Joyce Jensen.
