WEBSTER- Leona Hirtes, 92 of Webster died on Sunday, July 8, 2018 at Bethesda Home in Webster.
Her funeral will be 1:30 P.M., Friday, July 13, 2018 at Fiksdal Funeral Chapel in Webster, Pastor Michael McCarlson will officiate. Burial will be in Webster Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Thursday 5-7 P.M. at the funeral home with a 7 P.M. Prayer Service. Fiksdalfuneral.com.
Leona Lucille Gutzman was born March 17, 1926 to Edward and Augusta (Prierre) Gutzman in Madison, South Dakota and was baptized in the Christian faith at West Center Baptist Church in Madison. She completed her education at Madison Central.
Leona was united in marriage to Harold Hirtes on August 5, 1945 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Madison, South Dakota. After their marriage they moved to Webster, South Dakota where her husband was employed. Harold passed away in February 1988. Leona was employed by the Lake Area Hospital for 45 years retiring in 2000. She entered Bethesda Home in Webster in February 2012.
She was an active member of the American Lutheran Church for over 60 years where she participated in the choir and women organizations. At the time of her passing she was a member of the Tabor Free Lutheran Church. Recently Leona celebrated her 50 year membership with the American Legion Auxiliary. Her greatest joy was being with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include one son, Michael (Juanita) Hirtes of Columbia Falls, MT; three daughters, Gayle (James) Nilson of Webster, SD, Patricia Weber of Madison, SD and Dani Jo (David) Mohn of North Las Vegas, NV; one step-daughter, Marlyce Huyck of Spearfish, SD; a sister-in-law, Ramona Gutzman of Madison, SD; grandchildren, Marc Nilson and Chad Nilson, Jacki Hirtes Branstetter, Kate Weber Shaw, Andrew Weber, Chris Weber, Jordan Kelchlin Scott Mohn, Greta McCarthy and Philip Huyck and fifteen great grandchildren; also, many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Harold of 42 years, three brothers, Arthur, Gordon and Edward, Jr., and one sister, Lydia.
