Kevin Jens

Kevin Jens, 67, of Waubay, passed away Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at his home in Waubay. 

A memorial service will be held 2:00 pm Friday, November 15, 2024 at the Waubay School in Waubay and will be livestreamed via Fiksdal Funeral Service Facebook page. 

Memorial visitation will be 5-6:30pm Thursday, at the funeral home with a prayer service at 6:30 pm.

Kevin Paul Jens was born on December 1, 1956, to Fred and Lorraine (Winter) Jens in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He attended school at the Waubay School District and graduated in 1975. In 1981 he married Barb Williams at the Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Waubay. They moved to Bemidji, Minnesota. He has three children Eric Jens Sr., Tom DeCoteau Jr., and Angeline Wanna.

Kevin has moved around a bit working for flooring companies. He worked for Service Master in Fargo, North Dakota. He then moved to Sisseton, South Dakota and worked for Hellwig’s Flooring. Kevin made his way back to Waubay in 1995. At this time, he was self-employed and worked odd jobs. He was a man who worked hard and barely ever had free time. He was the Mayor of Waubay for 24 plus years, this would have been his 25th year. He enjoyed being a part of the community and putting his best foot forward to better it. He traveled to Pierre and Washington, D.C. in his mayoral position to help his town out. In his free time, he enjoyed gardening and fishing. Every year they had a family reunion at Kevin and Brenda’s home. He enjoyed attending pow wows to watch his sons and grandchildren perform. Kevin and his son Eric took a trip to Norway for cultural exchange and performances. He loved all things sports, especially if it was his grandchildren playing, he wanted to be involved. His favorite teams were the Chicago Bears and Minnesota Twins. Kevin had a sweet tooth, and you could always find him with a treat in his hands.

Kevin is survived by his children Eric (Lacy) Jens Sr., Tom DeCoteau Jr., Angeline Wanna, his grandchildren Eric Jens Jr. Emma Jens, Emeri Jens, Kai Bissonette, Eljin Jens, Ohanzi Etan Hinape, his siblings, Paula (Arnie) Beisch, Lori (Richard) Allran, Brenda Jens, Vicki (Bob) Kampa, Terri (Kevin) Gaikowski, Brett (Robin) Jens, and brother-in-law Darrel Koch, and many nieces and nephews.

Kevin was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Lorraine (Winter) Jens, brother Mark Jens, sister Rebeca Koch, nephew Ty Jens, and niece Brandi Beisch.
