Kenneth Shepherd

Kenneth Shepherd, 69 of Webster died Monday March 18, 2013 at Sanford Hospital in Webster. His funeral will be at 2:00 P.M. Friday, March 22, 2013 at Fiksdal Funeral Chapel in Webster, Rev. Jan FitzGibbon officiating. Burial will be at a later date at Hosanger Cemetery near Webster. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster on Thursday 5-7 P.M. and Friday one hour prior to services at the chapel. Fiksdalfuneral.com. Kenneth Lee Shepherd was born on February 27, 1944 to William and Gertrude (Hofler) Shepherd, Sr. near Clear Lake, South Dakota. The family lived at Clear Lake, Watertown and South Shore where he attended school. After he received his education he worked for room and board at the Snoozy Ranch near Clear Lake. While training horses for Wesley Gramberg he met Wesleys daughter, Karen. The couple dated and were married on September 24, 1962 at Watertown, South Dakota. Later that year he entered the United States Army where he received his basic training in Missouri. He was honorably discharged in 1963. After he returned he started driving truck and the couple lived in various towns until moving to Webster in 1969. They operated Shepherd’s Motel and he operated a cattle hauling business. They sold the motel in 1977 but he continued hauling cattle until 1985. He drove truck for Gene Steffes of Bristol until 1995 and then drove truck for Lien Construction until he retired in June 2012. Kenny enjoyed horses, snowmobiling, hunting fishing, playing cards and having coffee with family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Karen of Webster; one son, Ryan Shepherd of Webster, SD; two daughters, Pam (Tom) Dean of Cogswell, ND and Rita Sattler of Webster, SD; five brothers, Leroy Shepherd of California, Howard Shepherd of Watertown, SD, Donald Shepherd of Florence, SD, Raymond Shepherd of Elkton, SD and William Shepherd, Jr. of Clear Lake, SD; three sisters, Dorothy Rosheim of Rapid City, SD, Laura Braach of Des Moines, WA and Pauline Engberg of Chugiak, AK; eleven grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
