Kenneth Kennedy

REDFIELD- Ken Kennedy, 86 of Redfield and formally of Webster died on Saturday, March 24, 2007 at the Golden Living Center in Redfield. A memorial service will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 31, 2007 at Fiksdal Funeral Chapel in Webster, Rev. William Olsen officiating. Burial of his cremains will be at a later date at the Black Hills National Cemetery at Sturgis. Fiksdal Funeral Service of Webster is in charge of the arrangements. Kenneth George Kennedy was born on Saturday, April 10, 1920 to Harry and Inga (Soyland) Kennedy on the family farm near Holmquist, South Dakota. He grew up in the Holmquist area and graduated from Webster High School. He worked on many different jobs as a young man, was a skilled carpenter and cabinet maker. On November 7, 1941 he married Olive Sampson. He entered the U.S. Army January 1942 and served during World War II with the Engineer Corps on the Alcan highway construction project and in the European Theatre. He worked in Federal service for the Federal Aviation Administration for many years. After the death of his wife in 1980 and his retirement in the mid 1980’s he moved to Webster and then to Redfield to be near his son, John. Ken passed away on Saturday, March 24, 2007 at Redfield, South Dakota at the age of 86 years, 11 months and 14 days. Survivors include three sons, Charles (Marcia) Kennedy of Yankton, SD, John (Brenda) Kennedy of Redfield, SD and Robert (Julaine) Kennedy of Evergreen, CO; two daughters, Julie (Robert) Mitsven of LaMesa, CA and Jean (Gene) Washam of Highlands Ranch, CO; three brothers, H. Durwood (Pat) Kennedy of St. Paul, MN, Jack (Carolyn) Kennedy of South Shore, SD and Jim (Janice) Kennedy of Roslyn, SD; 16 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 39 years, two sisters, Ruby and Beverly, and one brother, Don.
