WEBSTER- Kenneth Amundson, 95 of Webster died on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at Bethesda Home in Webster. His funeral will be at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, November 25, 2017 at American Lutheran Church in Webster, Rev. Charles Bunk will officiate. Interment with military rites will be at Webster Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 P.M. Friday at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster. Kenneth “Kenny” Franklin Amundson was born on September 17, 1922 in Raritan Township, Day County, South Dakota, to Lars and Selma Amundson. He was baptized at Tabor Lutheran Church and confirmed at American Lutheran Church in Webster. He attended country school near Webster and later Webster School. After his education, he helped his father and brothers farm. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1944. He was stationed in the South Pacific and was aboard ship much of the time. He also served as a Japanese prisoner guard. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to Day County and once again farmed with his brothers. On August 21, 1954 he was united in marriage to D. Angeline Ausland at Lily Lutheran Church in Lily, South Dakota. The couple made their home near Webster and later purchased a farm northwest of Webster establishing the Amundson Family Farm, now operated by their son, Lonnie. The couple farmed until 1996, when they purchased a townhouse in Webster. In 2014, the couple moved to Heritage Village and in 2016, Kenny moved over to Bethesda Home in Webster. Kenny was a member of American Lutheran Church where he was active in various activities throughout the years. He was also a member of Farmers Union, the Webster VFW, and a lifelong member of the Webster American Legion. He also served as township supervisor for a number of years. Kenny had a kind heart and knew no strangers. His love for farming was unending, even making a trip to the fields during this harvest season. He enjoyed time spent at their lake home at Pickerel Lake as well ascamping, making at least one camping trip each summer. Kenny had an immense love for his family and will be greatly missed by each of them. He is survived by his wife of 63 years Angie Amundson, one son Lonnie (Nikki) Amunson all of Webster, SD, three daughters; Sandy (Kevin) Hanson of Willmar, MN, Lori (Jeff) Biever of Holland, MN, and Kristi (Scott) Glup of Willmar, MN, nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters; Doris Monson of Webster, SD, and Frances Swain of Shakopee, MN, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; John and Larry Amundson, one sister Vi Fosheim, and one grandson Nicholas Biever.
