Kathleen Stavig 80 of Roslyn died Sunday January 18, 2015 at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls.
Her funeral will be 10:30 A.M. Thursday January 22, 2015 at Roslyn Lutheran Church, Janet Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 5-7 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Kathleen Ozella Rye was born July 2, 1934 in Day County, SD to Ernest K. Rye and Agnes Pauline (Wick) Rye. She was baptized and confirmed at Skudesnes Lutheran Church. She attended Country School in Liberty Township #124 for her elementary education and later attended Roslyn High School Graduating in 1952. After High School she worked at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company for two years.
On November 21, 1954 she married Eldon Stavig at Skudesnes Lutheran Church and to this union two children Jeffrey Wayne and Debra Kay were born.
In 1970 she began working as a teacher’s aide at Roslyn School for ten years, then at the Roslyn Creamery as bookkeeper for 15 years and at the Roslyn Post Office as PMR for six years. She was Treasurer/Secretary for the Roslyn Cemetery and held other positions within the church such as teaching Sunday school and a member of WELCA. She enjoyed reading, working puzzles, and especially her coffee friends.
Her most important helpers these last years were her husband and her daughter, Debra. Her two granddaughters Lindsey and Emily were very precious to her.
She is survived by her husband Eldon; Son Jeffery Stavig of Aberdeen, SD; Daughter Debra (Lynn) Zubke of Roslyn, SD; Granddaughters: Lindsey Frankenstein of Sioux Falls, SD and Emily Frankenstein of Roy Lake, SD, two brothers: Wendell (Charla) Rye of Claremont, SD and Marlyn (Cheryl) Rye of Roslyn, SD and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers: Loren and Elser Rye; and a sister-in law Mae Rye.
