WEBSTER- Juliene Miller, 73 of Webster died on Thursday, December 4, 2008 at her home after a short illness. Her funeral mass will be at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at Fiksdal Funeral Chapel with Fr. David Axtmann. Burial will be in St. Otto’s Cemetery. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service (fiksdalfuneral.com) in Webster on Monday 4-9 P.M. with an 8 P.M. Rosary. Visitation will continue prior to services on Tuesday. Active Casket bearers will be Matthew Alken, William Alken, Octavia Kingen, Gregg Kwasniewski, Dana Miller, and Shane Woodell. Honorary casket bearers will be Brandy Brown, Tyson Butler, Myriah Kingen, Kristin Schuster, Emily Schmidt, Sara Alken, Aimee Woodell, Abbie Woodell, Kaleb Miller Woodell, Tawney Miller, Jesse Miller, and Sawyer Miller. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to the charity of donor’s choice in the name of Juliene Miller. Juliene was born on Friday, November 22, 1935, to Frank and Florence (Becht) Kwasniewski in Webster, South Dakota. She was the fourth of nine children. Juliene graduated from Webster High School. Juliene married Orrin Dale Miller on August 4, 1962, in a civil ceremony in Ipswich, SD. The couple made their home in Warner and Aberdeen, South Dakota, St. Paul, Minnesota and then moved to Webster. The couple renewed their marriage vows on April 25, 1992 at Christ the King church where she was a member of the choir and the altar society. Mr. Miller passed away on July 17, 1992. Juliene enjoyed a variety of employment. Her first job was bookkeeping at Wist Lockers in Webster. She prepared ski reports at Afton Alps ski resort in Afton, MN. She was a free-hand quilter at Dakotah in Webster. She enjoyed her position in medical records at Lake Area Hospital in Webster. Juliene's hobbies included working crossword puzzles, reading novels, creating unique birthday cakes, sewing, and crocheting. She learned crocheting from her mother and grandmother and this became her passion. She crocheted specialty dolls such as Bert and Ernie and Strawberry Shortcake. She made fancy and customized clothing pieces for a variety of decorative dolls such as; southern belles, cowboys and cowgirls, Indian braves and maidens, Olde St. Nicholas, and Mr. and Mrs. Clause. Juliene was very creative and excelled at making her own patterns for her projects. She was surrounded by her family when she passed away after a short illness on Thursday, December 4, 2008 at Webster, South Dakota at the age of 73 years and 12 days. Juliene is survived by her four daughters, Mona Byrnes of San Marcos, CA, Kathy (Les) Kingen of St. Bonifacius, MN, Joan (Harm) Alken of Cold Spring, MN, and Tracie Woodell of Webster, SD; one son: Dana (Suzie) Miller of Webster, SD; 16 grandchildren and 4 great-grand children; six sisters, Alice (Barney) Gebur of Webster, SD, Dorothy (Stanley) Rye of McIntosh, SD, Delphine Kwasniewski of Webster, SD, Elaine Erdman of Aberdeen, SD, Zita Snaza of Waubay, SD and Edith Harsche of Arizona; two brothers, Edward Kwasniewski of Webster, SD and Tim (Pat) Kwasniewski of Milbank, SD. Juliene is preceded in death by her parents, husband of nearly 30 years; son, Shane Miller (1990); and infant great-grandson Jordan Brewster (1993).
