ORTLEY – Julian Block 78 of Ortley passed away Thursday June 6, 2019 at his home near Ortley.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Wednesday June 12, 2019 at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster. Burial will be at the Ortley Cemetery near Ortley.
Visitation will begin at 12:00 P.M. noon prior to the service at the funeral home.
Julian Harold Block was born on April 28, 1941 to Tony and Ageline (Painter) Block. The family lived in the Webster, Waubay and Ortley area. He attended school in the area where they lived while he was growing up. After he received his education he worked for area farmers and construction jobs throughout the years.
He married Carol Achpenburg and to this union two daughters were born. The couple later divorced. Later, he married Peggy Clark and to this union one son, James was born. The couple later divorced and he and his son made their home in Ortley. Julian continued to work, helping farmers in the area until poor health forced him into early retirement. He lived at Milbank Care and Rehab where he met many friends and caregivers.
He enjoyed auction sales, animals and thrift store. He especially loved collecting antiques, especially cookie jars.
Julian passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2019 at his home in Ortley, South Dakota at the age of 78 years, 1 month and 9 days.
Survivors include one son, James (Machelle) Block of Ortley, SD; two daughters, Wanda Block of Elgin, ND and Carla (Tanner) Kahl of Mandan, ND; ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a twin sister in infancy.
