Joyce Mae Prieb was born on May 8, 1930, at the Peabody Hospital in Webster, SD to Herman and Emma Petrausch Prieb. Joyce Mae Prieb was baptized and confirmed at St John's Lutheran Church in Webster, SD. She attended Morton III County Farm School, graduated from Webster High School in 1948. She went on to graduate from Fairview Hospital School of Nursing in 1951. In 1954, Joyce Prieb married Herman B. Proctor in Great Falls, Montana Air Force Base. In 1955, while living in Silver Springs, Minnesota, Nadine, her firstborn, arrived, soon followed by Richard in 1956. Her family grew with the move to Fayetteville NC where Diane, Douglas and Daniel were born. The family then moved to Hawaii at Hickam Air Force Base. Maryland, Montana, and Massachusetts were other places they lived.
For most of her career, this hard working, beloved mother, supported her family as a surgical and ICU nurse after they returned to SD. When all her children were grown, Joyce moved to Fargo, ND to work at the VA hospital, ICU. After a long successful career, she retired from nursing in 2000, moved back to her hometown of Webster, SD where she enjoyed her final days…in her birthplace, in her true hometown, surrounded by her loved ones.
For eternity, Joyce Mae Prieb Proctor is alive in Paradise. We celebrate the 93 years of her life and admire the unconditional love she shared with so many.
A life well lived, Joyce freely, selflessly, and lovingly gave to her 5 children, her 6 grandchildren and her 3 great-grandchildren (expecting one more), daughter in law, sons in law, and extended family and many friends.
A mature Christian, the dedicated, retired, career nurse did not stop giving or working, as she stayed an active member in the church enjoying the bible study and volunteering. Joyce also enjoyed the Art Center, Webster Museum, along with her favorite hobbies of painting, knitting, crocheting, and crossword puzzles.
This strong matriarch of the family kept her independence in this world; while also keeping an even stronger, faithful, dependence on God, inspiring others to follow her gentle lead.
Joyce's spirit rejoiced, as she was surrounded by her family before and during her departure. We will greatly miss her presence in this world but look forward to seeing her in the next, standing with Jesus and seeing the face of God. Joyce is celebrating the best family and friends’ reunion conceivable; she is alive, and she is at Home. Through all her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, her blessed, fruitful legacy continues to live generationally.
She lived well, she loved well, and was dearly loved by all:
