Joyce Jenson, 82 of Ipswich and formerly of Summit died on Sunday, November 11, 2012 at Sanford Hospital in Aberdeen. Her funeral will be at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, November 15, 2012 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Waubay, Rev. Janet Miller officiating. Burial will be in the Summit City Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday 5-7 P.M. with a 6:30 P.M. Prayer Service. Joyce Elaine Pies was born on Monday, March 10, 1930 to Phillip and Leona (Donat) Pies at Summit, South Dakota. The family lived near Ortley, South Dakota. She was baptized at Hope Lutheran Church in Summit. She attended country school near her home in Alto Township. After she received her education she worked as a waitress in Sisseton. She was united in marriage to Merle Jenson at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Waubay. After their marriage the couple farmed in the Ortley and Summit areas. In 1979 they retired from farming and moved to Summit. Merle passed away in 1991. After his death she continued to live in Summit until moving into assisted living in Aberdeen and later in Redfield. She entered Golden Living Center in Ipswich in 2011. While on the farm she enjoyed shooting gophers. She also enjoyed embroidering, setting puzzles and spending time with her grandchildren. Joyce passed away on Sunday, November 11, 2012 at Aberdeen, South Dakota at the age of 82 years, 8 months and 1 day. Survivors include three sons, Donald (Vickie) Jenson of Sioux Falls, SD, Nyle (Marilyn) Jenson of Mina, SD and Merlynn (Carolann) Jenson of Shoshone, ID; one brother, Lloyd (Dorothy) Pies of Sisseton, SD; three sisters, Arvis Flones and Arlyne Schulz both of Waubay, SD and Karen Henderson of Milbank, SD; eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren and five step-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers and one sister.
